LP4067
Battery Temperature Detection
The LP4067T continuously monitors temperature by
measuring the voltage between the TS and GND
pins. A negative or a positive temperature coefficient
thermistor (NTC, PTC) and an external voltage
divider typically develop this voltage. The LP4067T
compares this voltage against its internal VTS-L and
VTS-H thresholds to determine if charging is allowed.
The temperature sensing circuit is immune to any
fluctuation in VIN, since both the external voltage
divider and the internal thresholds (VTS-L and VTS-H)
are referenced to VIN.
The resistor values of R1 and R2 are calculated by
the following equations:

K1(VTS-L)=30%, K2(VTS-H)=60%.
Where RTL is the low temperature resistance and RTH
is the high temperature resistance of thermistor, as
specified by the thermistor manufacturer. R1 or R2
can be omitted if only one temperature (low or high)
setting is required. Applying a voltage between the
VTS-L and VTS-H thresholds to pin TS disables the
temperature-sensing feature.
Thermal Limiting
An internal thermal feedback loop reduces the ISET
programmed charge current if the die temperature attempts to
rise above a preset value of approximately 125°C. This
feature protects the LP4067 from excessive temperature and
allows the user to push the limits of the power handling
capability of a given circuit board without risk of damaging the
LP4067. The charge current can be set according to typical
(not worst-case) ambient temperature with the assurance that
the charger will automatically reduce the current in worst-case
conditions.
