26 / 26 page ![]() Performance Characteristics These tests were performed under strict laboratory controlled conditions and may vary depending on type of wire and terminal combinations, wire stripping methods, and maintenance or proper gauging and calibration of manufacturer’s recommended tooling. CHART 9072 Corrosion (Salt Spray) Test 48 hours, 5% NACL Fog Note: Specification Maximum: Voltage drop of equivalent wire length, plus specification allowance. Salt Spray (Corrosion Test) • The purpose of this test, in which terminal samples are subjected to a file mist of 5% salt solution for a specific time (48 hours), is to provide an accelerated laboratory conducted corrosion test. • The curves shown on chart 9072 plot the final voltage drops (i.e., after subjecting the samples to salt spray), as called for in specification AS7928. For a terminal to meet or exceed requirements, its voltage drop readings after test must fall below limits shown in the upper curve (final). All Hollingsworth Military approved terminals exceed AS7928 Salt Spray (Corrosion) Test requirements. CHART 9073 Vibration Test 10-55 C.P.S. 36 hours Note: Specification Maximum: Voltage drop of equivalent wire length, plus specification allowance. Vibration Test • The purpose of this test is to determine the detrimental effect of vibration on the terminal. Terminals are attached to each end of a suitable length of wire. The test terminals are mounted in a specially built vibration machine, confirming to the requirements as set out in paragraph 4.7.7 of specifications AS7928. • The test terminals are subjected to vibrations of 10 through 55 cps. for a period of 18 hours in one plane and a further 18 hours in a plane normal to the first; a total test period of 36 hours aand are subjected to voltage drop tests before and after vibration. • The curves shown on chart 9073 plot voltage drops (i.e., after subjecting the samples to the vibration test). For a terminal to meet or exceed requirements, its voltage drop readings after test must fall below the limits shown in the upper curve 9final). All Hollingsworth Military approved terminals exceed AS7928 Vibrations Tests. Tensile Strength Test • The purpose of this test is to ensure secureness of the crimped terminal. The test is carried out as indicated under paragraph 4.7.8 of specifications AS7928. • After crimping the terminal to a suitable length of wire, it is placed in a standard tensile testing machine and sufficient force is applied to pull the wire out of the terminal or break the wire, or the terminal. • The lower curve on charts 9074 and 9075 plots the minimum pull out force expected for the various wire sizes crimped. The upper curve plots average pull out forces measured in actual tests on numerous samples. All Hollingsworth Military approved terminals exceed AS7928 Tensile Strength requirements.
