Plastic Fiber Connector Styles

Connector Description

Fourconnectorstylesareavailableforterminationofplastic

opticalfiber:simplex,simplexlatching,duplexandduplex

latching.Allconnectorsprovideasnap-inactionwhen

matedtoVersatileLinkcomponents.Simplexconnectors

arecolorcodedtofacilitateidentificationoftransmitter

andreceiverconnections.Duplexconnectorsarekeyed

sothatproperorientationisensuredduringinsertion.If

thePOFcable/connectorwillbeusedatextremeoperat-

ingtemperaturesorexperiencefrequentandwidetem-

peraturecyclingeffects,thecable/connectorattachment

canbestrengthenedwithanRTVadhesive(seePlastic

ConnectoringInstructionsformoredetail).Theconnectors

aremadeofaflameretardantVALOXUL94V-0material

(ULfile#E121562).

DUPLEX CONNECTOR STYLES

HFBR-4506 – Duplex

Thesimplexconnectorprovidesaquickandstableconnec-

tionforapplicationsthatrequireacomponent-to-connec-

torretentionforceof8Newtons(1.8lb.).Theseconnectors

areavailableingray(HFBR-4501)orblue(HFBR-4511).

HFBR-4503/4513 – Simplex Latching

Thesimplexlatchingconnectorisdesignedforrugged

applicationsrequiringagreaterretentionforce—80New-

tons(18lb.)—thanprovidedbyasimplexnonlatching

connector.Wheninsertingthesimplexlatchingconnector

intoamodule,theconnectorlatchmechanismshouldbe

alignedwiththetopsurfaceofthehorizontalmodules,

orwiththetallverticalsideoftheverticalmodules.Mis-

alignmentofaninsertedlatchingconnectorintoeither

modulewillnotresultinapositivelatch.Theconnectoris

releasedbydepressingtherearsectionoftheconnector

lever,andthenpullingtheconnectorassemblyawayfrom

themodulehousing.

Thesimplexlatchingconnectorisavailableingray(HFBR-

4503)orblue(HFBR-4513).

Duplex connectors provide convenient duplex cable

terminationandarekeyedtopreventincorrectinsertion

intoduplexconfiguredmodules.Theduplexconnectoris

compatiblewithdualcombinationsofhorizontalorvertical

VersatileLinkcomponents(e.g.,twohorizontaltransmit-

ters,twoverticalreceivers,ahorizontaltransmitterwitha

horizontalreceiver,etc.).Theduplexnon-latchingconnec-

torisavailableinparchment,off-white(HFBR-4506).

HFBR-4516 – Duplex Latching

The duplex latching connector is designed for rugged

applications requiring greater retention force than the

nonlatchingduplexconnector.Wheninsertingtheduplex

latching connector into a module, the connector latch

mechanismshouldbealignedwiththetopsurfaceofthe

dualcombinationofhorizontalorverticalVersatileLink

components.Theduplexlatchingconnectorisavailable

ingray(HFBR-4516).

Feedthrough/Splice

HFBR-4505/4515 Bulkhead Adapter

TheHFBR-4505/4515adaptermatestwosimplexconnec-

torsforpanel/bulkheadfeedthroughofHFBR-4501/4511

terminatedplasticfibercable.Maximumpanelthickness

is4.1mm(0.16inch).Thisadaptercanserveasacablein-

linespliceusingtwosimplexconnectors.Theadaptersare

availableingray(HFBR-4505)andblue(HFBR-4515).This

adapterisnotcompatiblewithPOFduplex,POFsimplex

latching,orHCSconnectors.
