DesCrIPtION
TheInterpoint™MCHSeries™andMGHSeries™ofdc-dc
convertersdeliver1.5wattsofoutputpowerwhilesaving
significantboardrealestate.Thewideinputvoltagerangeof12
to50VDCacceptsthevaryingvoltagesofmilitary,aerospace,or
spacebuspowerandtightlyregulatesoutputvoltagestoprotect
downstreamcomponents.Transientprotectionof80voltsforup
to120millisecondsexceedstherequirementsofMIL-STD-704A
forthe5and12voltsinglemodelsandthe12voltdualmodel.
The15voltsingleanddualconverterswillwithstandtransientsof
upto70voltsforupto120milliseconds.
Theconvertersareofferedwithstandardscreening,“ES”
screening,orfullycompliantto“883”MIL-PRF-38534ClassH
screening.See“Table11:ElementEvaluation”onpage12and
“Table12:EnvironmentalScreening”onpage13.Standard

Converter Design
MCHSeriesandMGHSeriesofdc-dcconvertersincorporatea
continuousflybacktopologywithaconstantswitchingfrequency
ofapproximately370kHz.Current-modepulsewidthmodulation
(PWM)providesoutputvoltageregulation.Outputerrorvoltage
ismagneticallyfedbacktotheinputsideofthePWMtoregulate
outputvoltage.Regulationisalsoaffectedbytheload;refer
totheElectricalCharacteristicsTable9onpage6and
Table10onpage7.
Dualmodelsregulatethenegativeoutputwithmagneticcoupling
tothepositiveoutput.Upto80%ofthetotalloadmaybeon
oneoutputprovidingthattheotheroutputcarriesaminimumof
20%ofthetotalload.Thedualmodelscanbeusedatdouble
theoutputvoltagebyconnectingtheloadbetweenpositiveand
negativeoutputs,leavingthecommonunconnected.

inhibit FunCtion
MCHandMGHconvertersprovideaninhibitterminalthatcanbe
usedtodisableinternalswitching,resultinginnooutputvoltage
andaninputcurrentaslowas2.3mA.Theconverterisinhibited
whentheinhibitpinispulledbelow0.8Vandenabledwhenits
inhibitpinisleftfloating.Anexternalinhibitinterfaceshouldbe
capableofpullingtheconverter’sinhibitpinbelow0.8Vwhile
sinkingthemaximuminhibitcurrentandalsoallowingtheinhibit
pintofloathightoenabletheconverter.Avoltageshouldnotbe
appliedtotheinhibitpin.Theopencircuitvoltagepresentonthe
inhibitpinis7to12V.
ProteCtion Features
Undervoltagelockoutpreventstheconvertersfromoperating
belowapproximately8VDCinputvoltagetokeepsystem
currentlevelssmooth,especiallyduringinitializationorre-start
operations.Allmodelsincludeasoft-startfunctiontoprevent
largecurrentdrawandminimizeovershoot.Theconvertersalso
provideshortcircuitprotectionbyrestrictingthecurrent.
