TheWatchdogTimerisprovidedtopreventprogrammalfunctionsorsequencesfromjumpingto
unknownlocations,duetocertainuncontrollableexternaleventssuchaselectricalnoise.
Watchdog Timer Clock Source
TheWatchdogTimerclocksourceisprovidedbytheinternalfSUBclockderivedfromtheLIRC
oscillator.TheLIRCinternaloscillatorhasanapproximatefrequencyof32kHzandthisspecified
internalclockperiodcanvarywithVDD,temperatureandprocessvariations.TheWatchdogTimer
sourceclockisthensubdividedbyaratioof28to215togivelongertimeouts,theactualvaluebeing
chosenusingtheWS2~WS0bitsintheWDTCregister.
Watchdog Timer Control Register
Asingleregister,WDTC,controlstherequiredtimeoutperiodaswellastheenable/disable
operation.ThisregistercontrolstheoveralloperationoftheWatchdogTimer.TheWRFsoftware
resetflagisusedtoindicatewhethertheWDTcontrolregistersoftwareresetoccursornot.
