34 / 67 page ![]() WI.232FHSS-25-R/ WI.232FHSS-250-R DATASHEET 33 Revision 1.1.0 To calculate the link budget for a wireless link, simply add the transmit power, the antenna gains, and the receiver sensitivity: Grxa SENSrx Gtxa Ptx LB + − + = For example, the link budget for a pair of Wi.232FHSS modules at the minimum data rate and using 2.2dBi ½ wave dipole antennas would be: (25mW): +13dBm + 2.2dB – (-105dBm) + 2.2dB: 122.4dB (250mW): +23.5dBm + 2.2dB – (-105dBm) + 2.2dB: 132.9dB A link budget of 122.4 dB should easily yield a range of 1/2 mile or more outdoors. If the environment is open and the antennas are 8 to 10 feet off of the ground, the range could be more than a mile. Indoors, this link budget should yield a range of several hundred feet. Packet testing of the 250mW module at full power has yielded results in excess of 3 miles at maximum data rate. The balance of receive sensitivity and transmit power allows good performance indoors in the presence of multi-path while keeping the overall operating current low This makes these modules suitable for primary battery powered applications such as RFID and automated meter reading. |
