RES Pin Reset
AlthoughthemicrocontrollerhasaninternalRCresetfunction,iftheVDDpowersupplyrisetime
isnotfastenoughordoesnotstabilisequicklyatpower-on,theinternalresetfunctionmaybe
incapableofprovidingproperresetoperation.Forthisreasonitisrecommendedthatanexternal
RCnetworkisconnectedtotheRESpin,whoseadditionaltimedelaywillensurethattheRESpin
remainslowforanextendedperiodtoallowthepowersupplytostabilise.Duringthistimedelay,
normaloperationofthemicrocontrollerwillbeinhibited.AftertheRESlinereachesacertain
voltagevalue,theresetdelaytimetRSTDisinvokedtoprovideanextradelaytimeafterwhichthe
microcontrollerwillbeginnormaloperation.TheabbreviationSSTinthefiguresstandsforSystem
Start-upTimer.
FormostapplicationsaresistorconnectedbetweenVDDandtheRESpinandacapacitorconnected
betweenVSSandtheRESpinwillprovideasuitableexternalresetcircuit.Anywiringconnectedto
theRESpinshouldbekeptasshortaspossibletominimiseanystraynoiseinterference.
ForapplicationsthatoperatewithinanenvironmentwheremorenoiseispresenttheEnhancedReset
Circuitshownisrecommended.
