Timer/Counter Mode

Toselectthismode,bitsPTnM1andPTnM0inthePTMnC1registershouldbesetto11

respectively.TheTimer/CounterModeoperatesinanidenticalwaytotheCompareMatchOutput

Modegeneratingthesameinterruptflags.TheexceptionisthatintheTimer/CounterModethe

TMoutputpinisnotused.ThereforetheabovedescriptionandTimingDiagramsfortheCompare

MatchOutputModecanbeusedtounderstanditsfunction.AstheTMoutputpinisnotusedinthis

mode,thepincanbeusedasanormalI/Opinorotherpin-sharedfunction.

PWM Output Mode

Toselectthismode,bitsPTnM1andPTnM0inthePTMnC1registershouldbesetto10

respectively.ThePWMfunctionwithinthePTMnisusefulforapplicationswhichrequirefunctions

suchasmotorcontrol,heatingcontrol,illuminationcontroletc.Byprovidingasignaloffixed

frequencybutofvaryingdutycycleonthePTMnoutputpin,asquarewaveACwaveformcanbe

generatedwithvaryingequivalentDCRMSvalues.

AsboththeperiodanddutycycleofthePWMwaveformcanbecontrolled,thechoiceofgenerated

waveformisextremelyflexible.InthePWMOutputMode,thePTnCCLRbithasnoeffectonthe

PWMoperation.BothoftheCCRAandCCRPregistersareusedtogeneratethePWMwaveform,

oneregisterisusedtocleartheinternalcounterandthuscontrolthePWMwaveformfrequency,

whiletheotheroneisusedtocontrolthedutycycle.ThePWMwaveformfrequencyanddutycycle

canthereforebecontrolledbythevaluesintheCCRAandCCRPregisters.

Aninterruptflag,oneforeachoftheCCRAandCCRP,willbegeneratedwhenacomparematch

occursfromeitherComparatorAorComparatorP.ThePTnOCbitinthePTMnC1registerisused

toselecttherequiredpolarityofthePWMwaveformwhilethetwoPTnIO1andPTnIO0bitsare

usedtoenablethePWMoutputortoforcethePTMnoutputpintoafixedhighorlowlevel.The

PTnPOLbitisusedtoreversethepolarityofthePWMoutputwaveform.
