TAS3001 as a Crossover and Equalizer 8.2 Measurement-Based Speaker Correction Although loudspeakers ideally should be designed for a uniform sound pressure response as a function of frequency, cost and physical constraints usually result in speakers that are less than ideal. To correct large nonlinearities in the response or to shape the response to listener preferences, speaker equalization can be performed. In the example speaker response shown in Figure 8−3, it is seen that the sound pressure level (y-axis) varies significantly as a function of frequency (x-axis). For speakers such as this typical loudspeaker, equalization can improve performance and enhance the listening experience. |
