FET Driver 25.1 Features • High side N-channel FET driver for controlling Charge and Discharge FETs in Li-ion battery application • Optional Deep Under-voltage Recovery mode allowing normal operation while charging Deeply discharged battery cells from 0-volt without an external Pre-charge FET • Optional Pre-charge FET mode that allows chargers without pre-charge functionality to charge a Deeply discharged battery from 0-volt 25.2 Overview The ATmega16HVB/32HVB integrates an N-channel FET driver for turning on and off external high-side Charge and Discharge FETs in Li-ion battery packs. The FET driver is designed for outputting a high voltage gate overdrive of typically 13V during normal operation. Figure 25-1. Simplified Block diagram. In normal operation FET is controlled by software. SW can enable and disable the Charge FET and the Discharge FET by writing to the FET Control and Status Register (FCSR).
