2 / 63 page ![]() 24CSM01 DS20006781B -page 2 Preliminary 2023 Microchip Technology Inc. and its subsidiaries Description The Microchip Technology Inc. 24CSM01 provides 1 Mbit of Serial EEPROM, utilizing an I2C (Two-Wire) serial interface with 3.4 MHz High-Speed mode capability. The device is organized as 131,072 bytes of 8 bits each (128 Kbytes) and is optimized for use in consumer and industrial applications where reliable and dependable nonvolatile memory storage is essential. The 24CSM01 allows up to eight devices to share a common I2C (Two-Wire) bus and is capable of operation across a broad voltage range (1.7V to 5.5V). The 24CSM01 features a 4-Kbit Security register, separate from the 1-Mbit memory array. The first half of the Security register is read-only and contains a factory-programmed, ensured unique, 128-bit serial number in the first 16 bytes. The 128-bit serial number is unique across the entire CS series of Serial EEPROM products and eliminates the time-consuming step of performing and ensuring serialization of a product on a manufacturing line. The 128-bit read-only serial number is followed by an additional 2 Kbit (256 bytes) of user-programmable EEPROM. The user-programmable section of the Security register can later be permanently write-protected via a software sequence. The device also contains a Configuration register, which allows the write protection behavior to be configured for legacy hardware write protection or enhanced software write protection. This allows the user to protect any of the eight independent 128-Kbit zones. Once the desired configuration is set, the Configuration register can be permanently locked, thereby preventing any further changes to the device operation. For added reliability, the 24CSM01 utilizes a built-in Error Correction Code (ECC) scheme. This scheme can correct up to one incorrectly read bit within a four-byte readout. Additionally, the Configuration register includes a read-only Error Correction State latch (ECS) that is set when ECC is invoked. The 24CSM01 supports the I2C Manufacturer Identification (ID) command, which will return a unique value for the 24CSM01, allowing easy identification within the application.
