359 / 368 page ![]() RM0319 General purpose timers (GPT) Doc ID 022640 Rev 3 359/368 37.4 Operation When the ENABLE bit in TIMER_CONTROL register is set, the GPT is enabled. Its counter is cleared and then starts incrementing. When the counter reaches a pre-set compare value (in TIMER_COMPARE register), two different modes of operation are available (selected by the MODE bit in the TIMER_CONTROL register): ● Auto-reload mode: when the counter reaches the compare register value, an interrupt source is activated, the counter is automatically cleared and restarts incrementing. The process is repeated until the timer is disabled. ● Single-shot mode: when the counter reaches the compare register value, an interrupt source is activated, the counter is stopped and the GPT is disabled. Capture mode This function is used for the measurement of input timing signals. When a rising transition occurs on the TMR_CPTRx pins, the current counter value is stored in the rising edge capture register (TIMER_REDG_CAPTx) and a dedicated interrupt source is activated. In the same way, when a falling edge transition occurs on the TMR_CPTRx input pins the current counter value is stored in the falling edge capture register and another interrupt source is also activated. Software can then read the value stored in the two capture registers and compute the time interval from the rising to falling edge (or vice versa).
