This 16-bit input port can only read data. There is no output latch and no direction register.

Data written to P5 is lost.

Alternate functions of port 5

Each line of Port 5 is connected to the input multiplexer of the ADC. All port lines (P5.15 to

P5.0) can accept analog signals (AN15 to AN0) which can then be converted by the ADC.

No special programming is required for pins that are used as analog inputs. The upper 6

pins of Port 5 also serve as external timer control lines for GPT1 and GPT2.

Table 86 summarizes the alternate functions of Port 5.
